The Fly Rodders Popper…
This type of fly has to be one of my favorites; nothing beats a highly visual chase down of your fly on the surface, especially when targeting the “bucket mouthed” Bass, which will often strike aggressively, launching itself into the air in a fountain of spray.
Fishing the popper isn’t only limited to bass fishing, saltwater species such as the Garrick, Skipjack and kingfish, to name a few, will also provide exhilarating top water action. In my own personal experience I haven’t yet fished the popper in the salt. I must still give it a shot… but when it comes to Bass, the first thing I reach for in the fly box is a popper.
The most simplest and cheapest popper available is a simple hard bodied popper, which most often comes in white, red or black with a few saddle hackles tied in behind the body. It’s easy to cast and in my opinion the most effective popper for bass…

For consistently bigger Bass a bigger popper might also be better:
There is a wide variety of popper available in different shapes and sizes, using different materials for the head, such as wood, foam, cork and even spun Deer hair. The options are only limited to the imagination. what I look for in a popper is something that’s easy to cast, and has a nice popping action which spits a bit of water… if you tie your own its easy to experiment with body materials, head size and cup shape for optimum disturbance.
